Tennessee Titans vs. Indianapolis Colts History
These two storied franchises met for the first time in 1970, when the Colts were still a Baltimore team and the Titans were the Houston Oilers. Following division realignment in 2002, the Titans and the Colts have been playing at least twice a year. To date, the Colts and the Titans have met a total of 60 times, with the Colts winning 38 of those games. While the Colts maintained 11 straight wins from 2011 to 2016, the Titans won five games in a row from 2020 to 2022, before the Colts turned the tables again in 2023.
The majority of the Colts’ success in the rivalry is attributed to the historically prolific quarterback play from Hall of Famer and multiple-time MVP Peyton Manning, and No. 1 overall pick Andrew Luck, who immediately succeeded him. The two quarterbacks had a combined record of 25-5 against the Titans, including Luck, who never lost in his 11 games.
It’s no coincidence that after Luck retired, and the Colts remained in flux at the position, that the Titans began to regain control of the series. Powered by their stifling defense and the powerful rushing attack of former Associated Press NFL Offensive Player of the Year Derrick Henry, the Titans have recaptured momentum in the series. Henry has tallied 1,432 yards and nine touchdowns in 16 games against Indianapolis.
What Super Bowl did the Titans go to?
The Tennessee Titans played in Super Bowl XXXIV in 2000, but lost to the St. Louis Rams 23–16.
