Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers History

The first game between Chicago and Green Bay occurred on November 27, 1921, with Chicago coming out on top 20-0. Chicago started the rivalry holding an edge over Green Bay, winning the head-to-head throughout the first four decades of games being played. While Green Bay won 15 out of 20 games in the 1960s, Chicago would re-take control of the series in the ’70s and ’80s. Since 1990, the Packers have taken control of the rivalry behind the stellar quarterback play of Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers.

In 2010, Green Bay and Chicago split the regular season head-to-head, with each team winning at home against the other. In the final game of the regular season, the Packers had to beat Chicago to clinch the final Wild Card slot in the playoffs, while Chicago was the NFC North Division winner and had a first-round bye. After each team prevailed in their Divisional round, they met in the NFC Championship Game. With what many fans are calling the biggest game in the history of this rivalry, Rodgers and the Packers beat Chicago 21-14 on the way to claiming their Super Bowl XLV title. Entering 2023, Green Bay has beaten Chicago in eight straight games.

Where Do the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears Play?

The Green Bay Packers have played at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin, since 1957. Lambeau Field sits on 1265 Lombardi Avenue, and is named after Packers legend and Hall-of-Fame head coach Vince Lombardi. Lombardi Field is the fifth-largest stadium in the NFL currently, with a capacity of 81,441.

Soldier Field is a historic landmark in Chicago, hosting notable games across sports like the FIFA Men’s and Women’s World Cup, NCAA Bowl Games, and the Special Olympics. It has also served as a venue for historic speeches and rallies by rights advocates like Franklin D. Roosevelt and Martin Luther King Jr. Soldier Field has the smallest capacity in the NFL, with room for 61,500 fans.
