The Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles have a historic rivalry. Both teams have been in the same division since 1961, playing against each other twice a year since then. The overall record for these two teams is an astounding 74–56 in favor of the Cowboys.

In the 1960s the Eagles were the stronger team, but by the end of the decade the Cowboys started their complete dominance over the rivalry. Between 1967 and 1972 the Cowboys won 11 games in a row against the Eagles. Then, between 1974 and 1978, the Cowboys won another nine straight games.

The tide began to turn for the Eagles in 1980 after they defeated the Cowboys in the NFC Championship to make their first Super Bowl appearance. During this 1980 NFC Championship game the Eagles, as the home team, decided to wear their white jerseys despite wearing green at home all season, to prevent the Cowboys from wearing white because they knew the Cowboys believed their blue jerseys were cursed. This was just one of the many things that has continued to fuel the rivalry flame between these two teams.

Other historic rivalry moments include the Cowboys players crossing the picket line to destroy the Eagles and run up the score in 1987; the Eagles’ Randall Cunningham’s 1987 fake kneel-down and subsequent long pass in the endzone to run up the score; accusations that a “bounty” was put on the heads of Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman and kicker Luis Zendejas by the Eagles’ management in 1989; the Cowboys dominating the 1990s by winning three Super Bowl championships; and Eagles’ holder Tom Hutton dropping the winning field goal hold to lose the game in 1997.

The Eagles went to win the division five out of six seasons between 2001–2006. More factors that fueled the rivalry were Eagles player Terrell Owens (T.O.) being traded to the Cowboys in the mid-2000s; Cowboys star quarterback Tony Romo dominating the league during the 2000s; Eagles quarterback Michael Vick doing the same in early 2010s; the Eagles’ Super Bowl win in the 2017 season; and the 2018 pre-game brawl between the two teams.

Even though these points barely touched the true encompassing nature of the rivalry between the Cowboys and the Eagles, one thing is for certain: These two teams do not like each other.
