What to Know About NHL Tickets

Official vs. Reseller NHL Tickets

As with any major event, NHL fans should aim to buy during the first official release of tickets when the season’s schedule is announced. Along with being the most simple and direct route to scoring seats, the official marketplace gives you a first look at your favorite sections.

However, you can still make it inside the arena at the last minute thanks to Ticketmaster’s wide selection of tickets—which you can buy right up until puck drop.

Notably, tickets purchased through the official Ticketmaster marketplace are issued by Ticketmaster, whether they’re primary or Verified Resale tickets. The difference lies in who put the seats up for grabs: While the seller during the initial ticket sale is the primary vendor, i.e. Ticketmaster, tickets can also be sold by other fans through the Ticketmaster marketplace. In both cases, tickets are 100% authenticated with a unique barcode and delivered securely and digitally to your Ticketmaster Account.

What Are Verified Resale Tickets?

Verified Resale tickets are tickets that have been purchased on Ticketmaster, put back on sale on the market by a previous buyer — often a fellow NHL fan or season ticket holder — and resold to fans with 100% authenticity verified by Ticketmaster. After purchasing a Verified Resale ticket, the ticket’s previous barcode is invalidated and a new barcode is issued.

Note: Resale tickets to home games for the Florida Panthers, Los Angeles Kings, Utah Mammoth and Vegas Golden Knights are not Ticketmaster Verified Tickets.

What to Know About NHL Playoff Tickets

The game stakes may be different, but tickets to the NHL regular season and Stanley Cup Playoffs can be found in the same place via Ticketmaster, the Official Ticket Marketplace of the NHL. As teams start to clinch playoff berths around mid-March, tickets for first-round playoff matchups will go on sale. Brackets are locked by the time the Stanley Cup Playoffs start in April, and additional postseason tickets are added after a team advances to the next round.

As with regular season tickets, be sure to only purchase Stanley Cup playoff tickets after they’ve officially gone on sale (be wary of spec listings).

Ticketmaster vs. Other Vendors

As the Official Ticket Marketplace of the NHL, Ticketmaster offers the widest selection of ticket options for hockey fans to browse, no matter your needs. When it comes to crossing the line before the buzzer, Ticketmaster gets you skating into the arena safely and smoothly.

How to Avoid Scams When Buying NHL Tickets

Ticketmaster provides a secure marketplace whether you’re a first-time ticket buyer or seasoned eventgoer. However, NHL fans can also use several strategies when selecting tickets to avoid any scams or sinister practices.

  • Confirm your Ticketmaster account security information—including your unique and strong password—is up to date.
  • Purchase NHL tickets directly from the event’s official partner, like Ticketmaster.
  • Avoid speculative tickets by waiting until tickets for an NHL game officially go on sale.
  • Make sure your password is unique to your Ticketmaster Account.

When Is the Best Time to Buy NHL Tickets?

The best time to buy NHL tickets is at the moment a team’s schedule is announced and tickets go on sale on Ticketmaster. The price of an NHL ticket can vary based on the game’s matchup, city, date or time, the seat location and more. The date and time that a seat is purchased can also affect the final total.

While the NHL regular season action unfolds, demand can shift with any matchup ready to start trending. Even up to the opening face-off, hockey fans can buy 100% Verified Resale tickets last-minute via Ticketmaster. However, ticket prices are not guaranteed to go down as the event approaches. Price fluctuations can depend on a number of shifting factors like league and conference standings, buzzworthy matchups with broader league implications, heated rivalry games, postseason rematches, standout team and player performance and more.

How Much Are NHL Tickets?

Ticket prices for NHL games depend on a variety of factors, including date and time, city, matchup, seat location, and when the tickets are purchased. The average ticket for an NHL game can cost between $100-$150.
