North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre History
When North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre opened in 1998 as Coors Amphitheatre, it was the first large-scale outdoor venue of its kind in the San Diego area. Through the years, the 20,500-seat facility in Chula Vista has also been known as Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre, Sleep Train Amphitheatre and Mattress Firm Amphitheatre until North Island Credit Union took over the naming rights in 2018 and brought with it an elevated concertgoing experience.
North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre Performers
The first run of shows at North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre was star-studded. Stevie Nicks headlined opening night, followed by the Pretenders with the B-52’s, a concert from Elton John and then the venue’s first-ever sold-out show from the Spice Girls. With its large capacity, the amphitheatre has hosted major acts — Ice Cube, Roger Waters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Poison, Dead & Company, Depeche Mode, Demi Lovato, The Cure and more.
