Every Dec. 1 for the past 25 years, people from around the world have come together to commemorate the fight against HIV/AIDS; to pay respect to those who have succumbed to AIDS and to support those currently living with HIV.
Each year, since 1988, they have done this by uniting to observe World AIDS Day.
This year’s World AIDS Day theme is “Shared Responsibility: Strengthening Results for an AIDS-Free Generation” and here at Ticketmaster, we’re doing our part to turn this theme into reality.
Through a special partnership with (RED)™, we’re raising money for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, which will be used towards prevention, treatment, counseling, HIV testing and care services for some of the poorest, most at-risk and marginalized groups facing HIV and AIDS in Africa. For every Ticketmaster mobile app downloaded Nov. 4 –30—and available for free in the iTunes® store and in the Android store—Ticketmaster made a donation to the Global Fund**.
We’re also encouraging you as fans to get involved.
Now and until Dec. 15, anytime you purchase tickets for concerts, sports, theatre and family events through Ticketmaster.com and LiveNation.com, you can make a $5 contribution that will go towards the Global Fund—towards much-needed monies for more services and medicines in densely affected areas.
And, we’re not stopping there.
We’re encouraging our employees to donate, matching their contributions, up to $10,000.
2013 marks the first time we’ve collaborated with (RED)™ to benefit the Global Fund, a campaign that has raised more than $215 million and positively impacted 14 million people*. Through our combined efforts with our fans and employees, we’re hoping to build upon the critical work that this organization has already done.

**From November 4th – November 30th, Live Nation Entertainment will donate a minimum of $25,000, maximum of $50,000, for Live Nation and Ticketmaster free app downloads
For the second year in a row, Live Nation Entertainment is participating in National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We are turning every Ticketmaster ticket pink and we are donating a portion of the proceeds for each NFL ticket purchased on Ticketmaster and the NFL Ticket Exchange to the American Cancer Society. You can read more about it here.
Nothing can compare to seeing an event live. Everyone has great stories about their most memorable concert, game, Broadway show, circus visit, comedy show. We are delighted to announce that we are working with television personality Erin Andrews to bring out the great stories surrounding everything live.
As part of the year-long initiative, Erin will serve as the host of the “Voice of the Fan” video series, featuring a number of lively interviews with well-known personalities in the world of sports, music and entertainment, and she’ll talk with their fans as well…fans like you! Through the video series and social media, everyone who loves live entertainment will get often unseen peeks at the personalities they see on stage, on field or on court, and they’ll gain insights into the evolving world of live entertainment and Ticketmaster’s continuing efforts to create a better, safer resale experience for everyone….stay tuned!
Every day I hear from fans about how much they dislike CAPTCHA (those squiggly lines at checkout). CAPTCHA is one of the things we do to get as many tickets as possible to fans who want to go to the show versus people whose only intent for purchasing is to resell for an astronomical profit. While the current CAPTCHA solution is effective in helping us identify and slow down BOTS (for more info on what BOTS are and what we do to fight them, check out this blog post) that unfairly cut the line, and swoop up some of the best seats to popular shows, it isn’t a great fan experience.
I could not be more excited to share with you today that we are dramatically improving this for you, on both Ticketmaster.com and our Ticketmaster mobile App for iPhone (and coming soon to the Android App). For the past year we have worked and searched for a better, more fan-friendly solution that still is secure and harder for BOTS.
In the Ticketmaster App for mobile, CAPTCHA is going away, poof! When you install the Ticketmaster App, you will be asked to enable “Push Notifications” and once enabled, our system will automatically work with your device to authenticate that you are a fan so you can purchase straight away.
There are also great new companies popping up that are working to develop innovative ways to address the problem online. We are delighted to share that we have implemented something new with Solve Media, a hot New York start up. Solve Media has great, innovative underlying technology that works to predict if you are a person or BOT.
If you are identified as a real person, you will have to type in real words or in some cases, a phrase from an ad presented to you by Solve Media. This won’t redirect you any place and your information isn’t going to be shared with anyone, the Solve Media solution simply offers our fans a better experience and will make it harder for BOTS used by scalpers.
We will continue to refine our ticket buying process to make it better for real fans and harder for BOTS, in the meantime, give it a try and let us know what you think, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
Thanks for being a fan!
Online ticket brokers should follow TicketsNow and TicketExchange and not allow scalpers to sell tickets for the Sandy relief concert
— Chuck Schumer (@ChuckSchumer) December 6th, 2012
If you live in New York you probably have heard about the unbelievable benefit concert next week, the 121212 event to benefit Hurricane Sandy Victims. With an epic line up of artists these are the hottest tickets in town. Many more fans want to go to this concert than there are tickets and this also means that scalpers are interested in purchasing tickets as well. As with any onsale, we blocked thousands of their BOT requests (here is more on our fight against BOTS). We are also continuing the work of carefully reviewing the orders and cancelling tickets if we find they were purchased by a scalper that violated our terms of service. To date we have cancelled hundreds of tickets.
Today, Senator Schumer (D-NY) called for resale marketplaces to take down the posts for tickets and the Senator Tweeted: Online ticket brokers should follow TicketsNow and TicketExchange and not allow scalpers to sell tickets for the Sandy relief concert.
We whole-heartedly applaud Senator Schumer (and we also want to thank him for the shout out!) for drawing attention to the disappointing activity on the secondary market for this charitable event. At Ticketmaster, we proactively blocked all postings for this event on our resale marketplaces (TicketsNow and Ticket Exchange) in advance because we believe that no one but the Robin Hood Foundation should profit from this event. This is our standard policy for all charitable events.
This could have been avoided if New York allowed paperless tickets. New York is the only state that bans this ticket type, which reduces scalping by 75%.
Tomorrow on Worlds AIDS Day, Ticketmaster will make a donation for every ticket sold throughout the day to Lifebeat: Music Fights HIV/AIDS thus encouraging music and live entertainment fans to help fight HIV/AIDS.
Lifebeat is a national nonprofit that uses the power of music and the music industry to help educate young people about HIV/AIDS prevention. Every year, Lifebeat reaches thousands of concert-goers across the country with safer sex education, free condoms, HIV/AIDS prevention information, counseling, and testing. In 2012, Lifebeat conducted HIV/AIDS outreach at concerts and festivals headlined by Madonna, Coldplay, Juanes, Wiz Khalifa & Mac Miller, and Rita Ora.
Held on December 1st every year, World AIDS Day provides an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV. Nearly 34 million people are currently living with HIV and AIDS worldwide, with young people between the ages of 13 and 24 accounting for 1 in 3 newly infected HIV cases in the US. Over 2,600 people aged 16 to 24 are newly infected daily.
We are happy to provide a channel for fans to support to Lifebeat’s cause and help fight against HIV/AIDS.

In the tragic wake of Superstorm Sandy, are you wishing you could do more to help those affected by natural disasters? Ticketmaster and the American Red Cross have partnered to make it easy for you to contribute.
Last week we started accepting donations on behalf of the Red Cross here at Ticketmaster.com. When you buy your tickets, you have the option to donate increments of $5 to relief efforts, 100 percent of which go directly to the Red Cross. Generous fans from all over the country are already making contributions but as you can see from the news, many people are still in dire straits and need our help.
The campaign ends Monday, November 19. If you miss our deadline, remember the Red Cross will continue accepting donations for Superstorm Sandy relief efforts–as well as in support of people affected by other unfortunate disasters. Please make a donation today with your ticket purchase or go directly to the Red Cross Disaster Relief donation page.
