Things to Do Near Ford Field Before & After an Event

Since its opening in the summer of 2002, Ford Field has been the Detroit Lions stadium. Located adjacent to Comerica Park (home of the Detroit Tigers) in downtown Detroit, the domed football stadium seats 65,000 football fans for each home game.

The stadium is also used for many other sporting events, including the NCAA’s Mid-American Conference championship game, the GameAbove Sports Bowl, home field for the United Football League’s Michigan Panthers and more. In 2007, Ford Field set an attendance record when more than 80,000 fans flocked to the stadium for WrestleMania 23.

The Fillmore Detroit

Just across Comerica Park from Ford Field sits the Detroit franchise of The Fillmore. Built in 1925 as the State Theater, the venue has been a pillar of the city’s entertainment district for the last century, with the likes of Ice Spice, Benson Boone, Jelly Roll and Jon Batiste all having performed there in recent years. The Fillmore also regularly hosts comedians (Dane Cook, Wanda Sykes), scientists (Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson) and tribute acts (Postmodern Jukebox, Whitney – Queen of the Night) as well.

Saint Andrew’s Hall

As its name suggests, Saint Andrew’s Hall is the former meeting place of the Saint Andrew’s Society of Detroit. Now a concert venue, the stage is also well-known for being one of the first places Eminem ever performed early in his career. The Hall actually contains three different spaces: the Main Ballroom, The Shelter on the lower level and The Burns Room upstairs. Recently Saint Andrew’s Hall has seen performances by Griff, The Front Bottoms, Jack White, Andra Day and more.

Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel

Located inside the MotorCity Casino Hotel, the Sound Board Theater opened in 2008 with a special concert by Detroit’s own Anita Baker. With seating for up to 2,400 fans, the theater has been the site of electric performances by everyone from Diana Ross, The Pointer Sisters and Musiq Soulchild to Eminem, Air Supply and Courtney Love. As Detroit’s only venue inside a casino, Sound Board has also been utilized over the years for sporting events, product launches and more.

Magic Stick

Magic Stick became part of Detroit’s entertainment district in the early 1990s after the bowling alley on the second floor of the Majestic was transformed into a live music venue catering to the city’s growing electronic, rock and garage band scenes. Since then, the intimate atmosphere has earned a reputation as one of Detroit’s premier rock venues, with bands like Black Country, New Road, Against the Current, The Regrettes and Sleigh Bells all playing in the space in between its storied dance music events.
