Things to Do Near Soldier Field Before & After an Event
Soldier Field is the Chicago Bears’ stadium and it has been standing in the Windy City for nearly a century. It opened in 1924, when, on the 53rd anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire, it was officially known as Grant Park Stadium. The athletic complex was rechristened as Soldier Field the following year to memorialize soldiers who had lost their lives in combat during World War I. The Bears moved into the stadium in 1971.
As the oldest established stadium used by the NFL, Soldier Field was fully renovated in 2002, with its interior being rebuilt. Throughout its history, the stadium has hosted the inaugural World Games of the Special Olympics, the FIFA World Cup and has been the site of speeches by historical figures including Martin Luther King Jr., Franklin D. Roosevelt and Amelia Earhart.
