From Bridges to Beats: Pittsburgh’s Premier Venues for Concerts

Pittsburgh is colloquially known as the City of Bridges, and as the second largest city in Pennsylvania, the ‘Burgh brings together music fans of all kinds for shows at venues of every size imaginable.

Between stadiums, arenas, amphitheaters and indoor concert halls, residents have a multitude of venues to choose from when attending concerts in Pittsburgh. Below, we’ve rounded up four of the most popular venues to check out the next time your favorite artist comes to the Steel City.

Acrisure Stadium

Box office hours: Open on event days from 10:00 a.m. to one hour before showtime

Previously known as Heinz Field, Acrisure Stadium is home to the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers when it’s not being used as a 68,400-seat concert venue in the city’s North Shore neighborhood. Since its opening in 2001, the venue has brought everyone from *NSYNC, U2, Beyoncé and Taylor Swift to town for wildly popular stadium tours.

PPG Paints Arena

Address: 1001 Fifth Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15219

Box office hours: Monday to Friday: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Saturday: 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Located in Pittsburgh’s city center near the convergence of the Ohio, Monongahela and Allegheny Rivers, PPG Paints Arena is the home rink of the Pittsburgh Penguins. It’s also served as a major stop on numerous arena tours since its 2010 opening, including Justin Bieber’s My World Tour, Céline Dion’s Courage World Tour, Katy Perry’s Prismatic World Tour, Coldplay’s A Head Full of Dreams Tour and Harry Styles’ Love On Tour.

Stage AE

Address: 400 North Shore Dr., Pittsburgh, PA 15212

Box office hours: Monday to Friday: 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Show days 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Stage AE became the second indoor/outdoor concert venue in the U.S. when it officially opened in December 2010. The entertainment complex contains a 2,400-seat indoor concert hall and an outdoor amphitheater and lawn that holds 5,500, as well as an intimate club with a smaller capacity of just 400. Over the years, Stage AE has welcomed rising stars such as Dominic Fike, Zach Bryan and Beabadoobee, as well as veterans like Dave Matthews Band, Weezer and Death Cab for Cutie.

The Pavilion at Star Lake

Address: 665 PA-18, Burgettstown, PA 15021

Box office hours: Open only on show days

Located 25 miles west of Pittsburgh, The Pavilion at Star Lake may be a bit more out of the way than other venues on this list, but it’s more than worth the short drive. An outdoor amphitheater near Burgettstown, the venue can hold up to 23,000 music fans — with 7,100 in a reserved seating, open-air pavilion and another 16,000 on a general admission lawn. Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Chicago, blink-182, Sheryl Crow, John Mayer and the Spice Girls have all electrified audiences at the venue dating back to the 1990s.
