D.C. United Shines on Opening Day in Brand New Home Stadium

Saturday, July 14th kicked off a riveting week on the Washington, D.C. sports scene. Audi Field finally got to show off its best asset: a charged D.C. United team ready to hit the field for their new MLS season, just before the MLB All-Star game followed… all of this on top of a Caps Stanley Cup win shortly before!

D.C. United made a winning move from their former stomping grounds at RFK Stadium to the brand new Audi Field as the team won their home opener 3–1 against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Fans of the Black-and-Red were also treated to English football icon Wayne Rooney’s first game as part of the team, including the glory of his crucial assist on a goal that led the team to victory. Rooney’s MLS debut was enthusiastically welcomed by avid D.C. United fans.

In a major advancement, Audi Field runs on completely digital ticketing. Ticketmaster spent Opening Day visiting fans at watch parties around their favorite spots in D.C. to gear up for the game – educating fans, like Screaming Eagles superfans, on the benefits of digital ticketing, helping with ticket downloads to Apple Wallet and Google Pay, and doling out sweet giveaway items to enhance the Audi Field fan experience.

Ticketmaster was there to capture all the excitement on the first day of this new chapter in D.C. sports – check out our recap and widget to buy tickets below.

Ticketmaster is proud to be the Official Ticketing Partner of MLS’ D.C. United and looks forward to the team’s continued success this season! To get in on the action yourself, grab tickets from the widget below.
