Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre History
Just west of downtown Phoenix, Arizona, the Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre has long been a popular spot to catch top artists in a magnificent outdoor setting. Opened in 1990 as the Desert Sky Pavilion, the amphitheater has gone through several name changes: from Blockbuster Desert Sky Pavilion to Cricket Pavilion, Cricket Wireless Pavilion, Ashley Furniture HomeStore Pavilion, and back to Desert Sky Pavilion until 2013, when the local Ak-Chin Indian Community took over the venue as the Ak-Chin Pavilion. Through the years, the Amphitheatre has opened its doors from April to October to host huge headliners and major festivals, including the Vans Warped Tour, Lollapalooza and Ozzfest, making it one of the best concert venues in Phoenix.
Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre Performers
Ever since “Piano Man” Billy Joel christened the stage back in 1990, the Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre has welcomed a long, impressive list of musicians in rock, pop, metal, country, punk, rap and beyond. Artists like Van Halen, Metallica, Nine Inch Nails, Lana Del Rey, Blake Shelton, KISS, Dave Matthews Band, Alice in Chains and Beck have lit up the Phoenix sky with momentous performances. The amphitheater has also inspired bands to set their shows to tape: This is where Fall Out Boy recorded their 2007 live album Live in Phoenix and Green Day recorded their song “Cigarettes and Valentines.”
