Gramercy Theatre History
Built as a movie house in 1937, the intimate Gramercy Theatre was designed by architect Charles A. Sandblom in the Streamline Moderne art deco style. A classy addition to Manhattan’s charming Gramercy neighborhood, the 500-seat space was adapted for off-Broadway theater productions in 1998. Live Nation purchased it for concerts in 2006, and local indie band Stellastarr was its debut booking.

Gramercy Theatre Performers
New York rap fans still speak in hushed tones about the time Jay-Z dropped by in 2009 to perform a rare free show. And comedian Dave Chappelle has performed here many times, including for the theater’s 10th anniversary.
