Dignity Health Sports Park History

After playing their initial seasons at Pasadena’s Rose Bowl from 1996 to 2002, the LA Galaxy moved to the newly-opened Dignity Health Sports Park on June 1, 2003. Originally called Home Depot Center, the venue was renamed StubHub Center in 2013 and finally Dignity Health Sports Park in 2019. In 2017, the stadium received its first major renovation, which expanded the total capacity and updated the press box, concession areas, locker rooms and luxury suites. A second major construction project launched in 2024 with an expected completion date set for 2027.

The sprawling, multipurpose complex invites sports fans of all stripes with onsite amenities like the 8,000-seat tennis and boxing stadium, expandable outdoor track and field facility, the VELO Sports Center, which features the largest indoor velodrome in the United States, and a collection of publicly-available, multi-use fields and courts called Galaxy Park. Additionally, Dignity Health Sports Park’s Main Stadium holds the distinction of the second-largest soccer-specific venue in the U.S. The pitch at Dignity Health Sports Park is composed of Bandera Bermuda grass.

Outside of regular season matches for the Galaxy, Dignity Health Sports Park has held seven MLS Cup matches, including hometown appearances by the Galaxy in 2012, 2014 and 2024. Dignity Health Sports Park has also served as a neutral site for the MLS Cup in 2003, 2004, 2008 and 2011, the MLS All-Star Game and FIFA Women’s World Cup championship in 2003, group stage matches in the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2011 and 2015, the SheBelieves Cup in 2022 and the CONCACAF W Gold Cup in 2024.

Although the Galaxy stand as the venue’s only consistent resident since opening, Dignity Health Sports Park has hosted other professional teams including the MLS’s former franchise Chivas USA, the NFL’s Los Angeles Chargers and the XFL’s Los Angeles Wildcats. In 2024, the venue presided over the inaugural season for Major League Rugby’s Rugby FC Los Angeles after holding seven editions of the rugby USA Sevens. The venue has also been the site of CONCACAF Champions Cup matches.

Looking ahead, Dignity Health Sports Park has been selected to host several events during the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. The tentative slate for Olympic events at Dignity Health Sports Park includes rugby sevens, tennis, field hockey, cycling track and the modern pentathlon.

Parking and Admission at Dignity Health Sports Park

Dignity Health Sports Park is located at 18400 South Avalon Boulevard in Carson, California. For guests arriving by car, parking at Dignity Health Sports Park can be found in several campus lots surrounding the stadium. Accessible parking is offered on a first-come, first-served basis in Lots 10, 13 and 15. Dignity Health Sports Park parking costs range between $30 and $40 for standard and preferred parking, while valet parking typically costs $75 though prices vary by event and time.

Free parking is available at pick-up locations for the Galaxy Express shuttle at the Harbor Gateway Transit Center on West 182nd Street in Gardena and the Del Amo Station on Santa Fe Avenue in Dominguez. The free Galaxy Express shuttle arrives every 10 minutes on match days, running from 90 minutes prior to kickoff to the game’s 15th minute and resuming after the game until 45 minutes following the final whistle. Additional public transportation to Dignity Health Sports Park can be found via LA Metro on the A, C and J rail lines or the 1, 13, 51, 205 and 246 bus lines. Before entering the complex, be sure to take advantage of the Dignity Health Sports Park tailgating scene. Permitted in parking lots 10, 11, 12 and 13 on Galaxy game days, tailgating . Parking lots at Dignity Health Sports Park generally open three hours before the match starts, while gates to the venue open 90 minutes ahead of the start time. Entry to both Dignity Health Sports Park and its parking areas requires guests to present a ticket from either the LA Galaxy App or AXS App. From parking to concessions, Dignity Health Sports Park is a cashless venue.

Per Dignity Health Sports Park bag policy, guests can bring clear, vinyl or plastic no larger than 12” x 6” x 12” or one clear, one-gallon plastic freezer bag. Hand-sized clutch bags with or without a handle or strap can be brought in as long as it fits inside your clear plastic bags. Exceptions will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at a gate designated for this purpose.

Dignity Health Sports Park rules also prohibit items such as weapons, fireworks, laser pointers, inflatable objects, bottles, cans or coolers. Outside food and drinks are not permitted aside from small snacks, clear and sealed water bottles or medically-necessary provisions. Notably, CSUDH is smoke-free campus, which bars the use of any natural or electric tobacco products. Dignity Health Sports Park Capacity & Seating Options

The Dignity Health Sports Park capacity accommodates up to 27,000 fans for soccer matches through a mix of assigned seating, General Admission benches and open-field spectating on the north goal berm. To find seated sections, check the east sideline (Sections 107 to 115), west sideline (Sections 128 to 136) and mezzanine (Sections 226 to 238). Bench seating is located on the north endline (Sections 116 to 119 and 124 to 127) and south endline (Sections 137 to 142 and 101 to 106).

Meanwhile, fans looking to join the LA Galaxy’s supporters clubs should grab tickets in the stadium’s north end or southeast corner. Also known as the Victoria Block, the northside standing area houses the Galaxy Outlawz in Section 120, the Angel City Brigade in Section 121 and the Galaxians in Section 123. On the south end, the LA Riot Squad dominates Sections 137 and 138. Within each supporters club section, seats are unreserved.
