Located in Austin, Texas, on the campus of the University of Texas, the stadium – which can hold over 100,000 people – has been the home of the Texas Longhorns football team since 1924. Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium History

Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium, formerly Texas Memorial Stadium, has been the home of University of Texas football and track teams since 1924. In its 100 years of existence, the stadium has been expanded to have the capacity for 100,119 fans, making it the the seventh-largest stadium in the United States and the ninth largest stadium in the world.

Upon its opening in 1924, the stadium was dedicated to the Texans who had served in World War I. Following World War II, the stadium was rededicated to Texans who had served in World War II and renamed in honor of football coach Darrell K Royal, who enlisted in the US Army Air Corps in 1943. In 1977, the stadium was dedicated to the memory of UT Austin alumni who served in all American wars.

Aside from being known far and wide as one of Texas’ premiere sports venues, the stadium has hosted numerous musical acts, such as the Eagles in 1995 and The Who and Boz Scaggs in 2022.

With beloved traditions such as the running of the team’s mascot, Bevo the Bull, across the field and the “Hook ‘em Horns” hand signal that marks wherever Longhorn fans gather, any visit to Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium is bound to be a memorable one.

Parking and Admission at the Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium

Seasonal parking permits are available when purchasing a seasonal football ticket. The number of parking permits one may purchase are based upon a combined total of football seat gifts (excluding suites), baseball seat gifts and Longhorn Excellence gifts.

The following garages offer game day parking for the public for $50 starting five hours before game time: Health Center Garage, Speedway Garage and the East Campus Garage. If online event parking is not sold out, the following UT surface parking lots will be available for public parking for a $50 fee starting at 7 a.m.: Lot 15, Lot 18 and Lot 92. Special accommodation parking is available at Lot 118, the East Campus Garage and Trinity St near Deloss Dodds Way. Please note that special accommodation parking is not ADA compliant but it does offer parking close to the venue that fans may find helpful. A clear bag policy is in effect at the Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium. Approved bags include: Bags that are clear plastic and do not exceed 12” x 6” x 12,” one-gallon clear resealable plastic storage bags. Small clutch bags or purses do not have to be clear but cannot exceed 4.5” x 6.5.”

Items prohibited from the stadium include: artificial noisemakers, banners, flags, flag poles, selfie sticks, signs, umbrellas, cameras with detachable lenses greater than 10″, GoPros, video cameras, tripods, coolers, explosive and flammable materials, weapons of any kind, food, outside beverages or beverage containers, pets (except service dogs), strollers and tobacco products.

Similar to most football stadiums, the midfield seats are the seats with the best view of the action. Dedicated Longhorns fans should purchase seats in sections 3-5 to enjoy the best vantage points. There are more than 100 luxury suites located in the Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, each with spectacular views of the field and world-class amenities. Some of the most popular suites are the East Side Suite, West Side Suite, Touchdown Club, Terrace Club, Texas Club, Centennial Suite, Ricoh Stadium Club, Champions Club and the Longhorn Corral Club. Fans that purchase qualifying season tickets and contribute to the Longhorn Foundation Annual Fund gain access to one of the hospitality clubs above.

Food & Beverage Options at the Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium

Visitors don’t have to wander far from their seats to satisfy any gameday cravings. There are 20 different vendors situated throughout the stadium, offering a variety of classic American cuisine and beverages — both alcoholic and non-alcoholic.
