Bryant–Denny Stadium History

Bryant-Denny Stadium opened in 1929 as Denny Stadium, named after then-university president George H. Denny. While he was still coaching the Crimson Tide, Alabama recognized Hall of Fame coach Paul “Bear” Bryant with the stadium’s current name, and its turf was dedicated as Saban Field following seven-time championship coach Nick Saban’s retirement in 2024.

Alabama’s elite coaching legacy is enshrined in the Walk of Champions, which features five individual bronze statues for the team’s championship-winning head coaches, along with a granite plaque commemorating each championship season on a brick plaza leading to Bryant-Denny Stadium. On game day, the space comes alive as fans cheer on the team crossing toward the main entrance.

Initially holding a maximum 12,000 guests, the venue has undergone several major expansions, including deck additions in 1988, 1998, 2006 and 2010. Alabama regularly split their home games between Bryant–Denny Stadium and Birmingham’s Legion Field prior to the massive 2006 renovation and only hosted their first on-campus Iron Bowl against Auburn in 2000. After its completion, Bryant–Denny Stadium officially ranked as the largest stadium in Alabama.

Game days start with tailgating on The Quad and The Elephant Stomp at Gorgas Library by The Million Dollar Band, but inside Bryant-Denny Stadium, the traditions remain just as strong. After a win, fans can be heard shouting the school fight song “Yea Alabama!” and cheers like “Rammer Jammer,” “Bammy Bound” and “Tusk.” Ahead of the fourth quarter, the venue speakers blast “Dixieland Delight” by the country band Alabama.

Parking and Admission at Bryant–Denny Stadium

Bryant–Denny Stadium is located at 920 Paul W. Bryant Drive in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Public parking at Bryant–Denny Stadium is available in Lot A for season pass holders at $250 or Lots B and C for single-game parking at $35 per game. Accessible parking can be found at the Tutwiler Deck for $35, while designated spaces are provided throughout campus to faculty, students and Tide Pride members. Passes sell out quickly, so secure yours via the athletic program’s website.

Guests can park off campus for free at the Downtown Intermodal Facility parking deck, which includes a $1 shuttle that runs three hours before kickoff and one hour after games end. Elsewhere, parking options near Bryant–Denny Stadium range from $10 to $30. Additionally, the Crimson Ride Shuttle operates on a campus loop for free from 6:00 a.m. until 90 minutes after the game is over.

The rules for entry into Bryant–Denny Stadium prohibit items such as artificial noisemakers, offensive banners or signs, weapons, glass bottles, cans or coolers, selfie sticks, telephoto lenses longer than six inches, seat backs larger than 16 inches, strollers, umbrellas and more. Bryant–Denny Stadium’s bag policy accepts any clear bag under 12″ x 6″ x 12″, non-clear bag smaller than 4 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ or one-gallon clear plastic freezer bag.

The seating options at Bryant-Denny Stadium are divided between bleachers and standard or cushioned chairbacks. The venue’s 6,200-plus premium seats and 185 suites fall into either of the latter options, while bleachers account for the majority of the stadium’s seating. Food & Beverage Options at Bryant–Denny Stadium

Bryant–Denny Stadium concessions provided by Levy Restaurants, who offer spectator staples like the Denny Dog, popcorn and pretzels as well as vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. In addition, there are several specialty dining stations for World of Beer, Poppin’ Sisters Popcorn and Twelve25. Outside food and beverage are prohibited unless medically necessary.
