Step Inside: American Family Field – Home of the Milwaukee Brewers

Home of the Milwaukee Brewers

American Family Field is home to the Milwaukee Brewers of Major League Baseball. Located at 1 Brewers Way, the stadium is situated west of Milwaukee Bay between Menomonee Valley Community Park, Wood National Cemetery and the Clement J. Zablocki Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

The ballpark’s fan-shaped retractable roof is entirely unique to the MLB, and can open and close in less than 10 minutes. The roof is also constructed with large panes of glass, which allow for the growth of natural grass in the stadium.

Below, take a step into American Family Field, including the stadium’s history, parking and admission, and capacity and seating options, as well as food and beverage options inside the stadium.

American Family Field History

American Family Field first opened as Miller Park in 2001. At the time, the stadium was one of the largest construction projects in the history of Wisconsin. On opening day, then-President George W. Bush and MLB Commissioner Bud Selig threw out ceremonial first pitches. That same day, the Brewers played their first game at the stadium, beating the Cincinnati Reds, 5-4.

The following year, the ballpark hosted the 2002 MLB All-Star Game, which memorably ended in a tie of 7-7 after both teams exhausted their rosters of available pitchers. Due to the tie, no All-Star Game MVP Award was given out.

For the 2006 season, the Brewers added dual sets of LED scoreboards in the outfield, as well as a second-tier marquee scoreboard. Between the 2010 and 2011 seasons, the stadium’s original scoreboard in center field was upgraded to a Daktonics 1080p HD display board, which ranked (at the time of its installation) in the 10 largest screens in MLB.

Miller Brewing Company’s naming rights on the stadium expired in 2020, at which point it was rechristened as American Family Ballpark after Madison, Wisc.-based insurance giant American Family Insurance.

Another unique element of the complex is a special “sensory friendly area” added in 2022, which was designed to accommodate fans and children with sensory processing disorders.

Other major events that have taken place in the stadium’s history include the 2007 United States Bowling Congress Masters finals, the 2012 movie premiere of “Field of Honor: A Salute to the Greatest Generation” and the 2022 Brew City Battle — with the Wisconsin Badgers men’s and women’s basketball teams respectively playing the Stanford Cardinals and the Kansas State Wildcats.

Parking and Admission at American Family Field

American Family Field now uses a License Plate Recognition System for all events. As such, attendees can purchase reserved parking passes in advance using the MLB Ballpark App or purchase parking onsite using a QR code.

Parking lots at the stadium open three hours before first pitch (2.5 hours for games on Monday through Thursday starting at 6:15 or 6:40 p.m.). ADA accessible parking is filled on a first-come, first-served basis once attendees have purchased a general parking pass. After all ADA accessible parking is filled, personnel will direct fans in need of accessible parking to the closest available parking spot.

American Family Field Capacity & Seating Options

American Family Field has a total capacity of 41,900, divided between field seats, a loge level, a club level and a terrace level. The field level includes seats, boxes and bleachers along the outfield and visitor’s bullpen. To view a seating chart of the field, click here.

Food & Beverage Options at American Family Field

American Family Field offers all types of concessions, meals and beverages, including standard fare like hot dogs, bratwurst, pizza and nachos and Wisconsin specialities like cheese curds, Bavarian pretzels, baked potatoes and a (semi-secret) Friday fish fry at the concession stand behind section 204. In 2023, the Brewers introduced the popular 414 menu at a dozen concession stands around the stadium, offering a menu of a junior hot dog, junior nachos, Cracker Jack and a small soda each for just $4.

As of 2025, the stadium is also unveiling The Alley Food Truck Park, featuring local food truck vendors on the left field Loge Level. While an official list of vendors has yet to be finalized, the area is also set to include a new bar area for fans near the stadium’s on-site restaurant, J. Leinenkugel’s Barrel Yard.
