Miami Heat vs. Chicago Bulls Series History
The playoffs have been the driving factor in the rivalry between the Miami Heat and the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls and Heat met in the playoffs in 1992, 1996, 1997, 2006, 2007, 2011, and 2013. The ’90s were all Bulls. Backed by one of the greatest players of all time, Michael Jordan, the Bulls defeated the Heat in the NBA Playoffs in 1992, 1996 and 1997. The Heat then achieved their first NBA Playoff victory over the Bulls in 2006, winning 4–2 in the Eastern Conference First Round. The Bulls came back the next year to sweep the Heat in the 2007 Eastern Conference First Round. The tide then turned again after the Miami Heat acquired another great player of the generation, LeBron James, and defeated the Bulls in the 2011 and 2013 NBA Playoffs.
The comparisons between these two teams are astounding. The Chicago Bulls were the powerhouse of the ’90s, winning six championships in 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, and 1998 with their superstar player Michael Jordan. The Heat then took the lead in the NBA. Led by Dwyane Wade and Shaquille O’Neal, the Heat won their first championship in 2006. They then won their next two championships in 2012 and 2013 with star LeBron James. These two teams have seen the absolute best players in the NBA at any given time, with both teams achieving supremacy and championships because of it. When the Bulls had Michael Jordan, they made quick work of the Miami Heat in the playoffs, sweeping the Heat in both 1992 and 1996 Eastern Conference First Round and beating them 4–1 in 1997 Eastern Conference Finals. Their series have always been one-sided. The closest matchup was in the 2006 Eastern Conference First Round when the Heat won 4–2. All of their other matchups have either been sweeps or a 4–1 series. One of the greatest matches in recent memory was during the 2011 NBA Playoffs when Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh of the Heat defeated the Chicago Bulls, led by Derrick Rose, in the 2011 Eastern Conference Finals 4–1. Although the games were all Heat, it was extremely impressive to see the court being shared by some of the greatest basketball players of our time.
