Maybe Happy Ending’s Hannah Kevitt Shares Her ‘Theater Kid-Core’ Playlist

Hannah Kevitt is a proud theater kid. Just took to the Maybe Happy Ending understudy’s “go-to hype song” for proof: “So Much Better” from Legally Blonde the Musical.

The actor regularly uses Elle Woods’ triumphant Act 1 closer to pump herself up in her dressing room at the Belasco Theatre, where she’s currently the standby for the role of Claire in the original Broadway cast led by Darren Criss and Helen J. Shen.

Directed by Tony winner Michael Arden, Maybe Happy Ending opened in October 2024 as one of the most inventive and futuristic new musicals of the Broadway season. Set in a not-so-distant version of Seoul, the production follows the paths of Oliver and Claire, two helper robots abandoned by their human owners in favor of newer, more advanced models.

As the pair of helper-bots cross paths, they form a surprising connection that challenges everything their programming tells them about love and what they can expect from their battery-charged lives before they drift into obsoletion.

“Getting to be a part of Maybe Happy Ending feels like a dream come true,” Kevitt tells Ticketmaster. “The other day I was talking to Helen J. Shen (who plays Claire full-time) about how I never grew up having a ‘dream role,’ but if I was a little Asian girl in the audience of Maybe Happy Ending, Claire would be my dream role — and to get to work on your dream role on Broadway is such an immense gift and privilege and I’m honored to standby for Claire for all the little Asian girls out there.”

Below, check out the entirety of Kevitt’s pre-show playlist — including the up-and-coming girl group that connects to her character’s love of K-pop, the Pixar soundtrack pick that she uses during vocal warm-ups and the wide range of jazz influences she channels in her performance as Claire.

1. KATSEYE – “Touch”

I’m a sucker for a girl group, and I feel like Claire is too because (Easter egg!) she has a poster in her room of a K-pop group.

2. Lizzy McAlpine – “Nothing / Sad N Stuff”

Lizzy is one of my all time favorite artists and this is my favorite song from this album [the pop singer’s 2020 debut full-length Give Me A Minute]. She really inspires the way that I like to sing, especially her vocal flips.

3. Couch – “Easy to Love”

Couch was my top artist this year and their music is such a vibe.

4. Melt – “Sour Candy”

Very similar vibes to Couch. I love a jazzy, funky pop song.

5. Samara Joy – “Guess Who I Saw Today”

Maybe Happy Ending has a lot of jazz music throughout the show and I love throwing a bit of that in. I’m obsessed with Samara Joy’s voice.

6. Owl City – “Fireflies

“I just love fireflies” – Claire, Maybe Happy Ending.

7. Thomas Newman – “Define Dancing” from WALL-E (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Our fans have pointed out a Pixar vibe to our show and I love that, so I’ll throw this song on — especially while I’m warming up vocally since it’s an instrumental.

8. Natalie Cole – “Orange Colored Sky”

I have always loved this song and again I love to sprinkle in jazz for this show.

9. Laura Bell Bundy & Legally Blonde Ensemble – “So Much Better” from Legally Blonde the Musical (Original Broadway Cast Recording)

This is so theatre kid-core of me, but this is my go-to hype song and one of my favorite musicals ever.

10. India.Arie – “I Am Light”

This is my go-to mediation/centering song. It’s all about finding strength and light inside yourself. When I’m really nervous before a show or an audition, I have to listen to this song to remind myself that I am capable of hard things.

Tickets for Maybe Happy Ending are available on Ticketmaster.
