Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Indiana Pacers History

As is true of many NBA rivalries, Cavaliers-Pacers is a feud rooted in the drama of the postseason. Meeting in the playoffs for the first time in the Eastern Conference First Round in 1998, the Pacers beat the Cavs three games to one in a series of defensive clashes that rarely saw either team score above 90 points.

The teams wouldn’t meet again in the postseason until nearly 20 years later in 2017, in the wake of the Cavs’ 2016 championship season led by LeBron James. The Cavs would go on to sweep the Pacers, 4-0, en route to their second consecutive NBA Finals appearance, which they ultimately lost to the Golden State Warriors.

Dead set on redemption in 2018, the Pacers cornered the Cavs in the first round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs again. This time, the series went to game seven, where Cleveland won. It solidified a rivalry that lives on to this day.
