Home of the Arizona Diamondbacks
Chase Field is the home stadium of Major League Baseball’s Arizona Diamondbacks. Located in Phoenix, Arizona at 401 East Jefferson Street, the field sits just a couple of blocks east of Footprint Center in the city’s vibrant downtown district.
The Diamondbacks played their first game at the stadium on March 31, 1998 — the very same season they began play as an MLB expansion team. In the decades since, the Diamondbacks won the 2001 World Series and made it once again to the World Series in 2023.
Below, take a step into Chase Field, including the arena’s history, parking and admission, and capacity and seating options, as well as food and beverage options inside the arena.
Chase Field History
Chase Field opened March 31, 1998 under its original name, Bank One Ballpark. With Phoenix being the hottest major city in North America, the field was built with a retractable dome roof, which is opened or closed every game depending on the temperature.
Just a few years after joining MLB as an expansion team, the Diamondbacks reached the 2001 World Series, facing off against the New York Yankees. Games 1, 2, 6 and 7 were all played in Arizona, with the home team winning all four of those and clinching their first title as World Series champs.
In 2005, the naming rights on the venue were changed when Bank One merged with JP Morgan Chase & Co, and the stadium became known as Chase Field. The ballpark hosted Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game for the first time in 2011, where the National League beat the American League 5–1.
The Diamondbacks made their first postseason appearance as a Wild Card team in the 2017 National League Wild Card Game against the Colorado Rockies, which was held at Chase Field.
The team once again reached the World Series in 2023. Games 3, 4 and 5 were played at Chase Field against the Texas Rangers, but the Diamondbacks ultimately lost five-game series.
Other major events that have taken place in Chase Field’s history include the Rate Bowl, the Professional Bull Riders Built Ford Tough Series, Monster Jam (from 1999-2015) and the WWE’s 2019 Royal Rumble.
Chase Field is regularly used as a venue for major stadium tours as well, including the likes of Black Sabbath, *NSYNC, Kenny Chesney, Billy Joel, Bad Bunny, Elton John, Morgan Wallen, Def Leppard and Journey, and Green Day. The stadium hit a record high in concert attendance for P!NK’s Summer Carnival 2023 with a total of 53,400 fans.
