Too Darn Hot: Top Broadway Shows in July 2025

When it comes to things to do in NYC, there’s never been a better time to take in a Broadway show than the height of summer. As June gives way to July, Tony-winning smashes like The Outsiders and MJ The Musical are firing on all cylinders in New York City’s Theater District.

Other top shows of the month send theater lovers back in time, on a visit to the decadence and glitz of the Roaring Twenties for The Great Gatsby or to the 1950s and ‘60s to explore Bobby Darin’s iconic songbook in Just in Time.

Plus, July is your last chance to catch BOOP! The Musical, Pirates! The Penzance Musical and SUNSET BLVD. — including Nicole Scherzinger’s unforgettable, Tony-winning turn as Norma Desmond — before the curtain closes for the last time on each show later this month. (Buying Broadway tickets in the summer also guarantees a gloriously air-conditioned reprieve from the steaming city.)

No matter what type of night at the theater you’re in the mood for, there’s something for everyone this month. Find out how to buy Broadway tickets to all of the amazing shows below.

Top Shows on Broadway in July 2025

The Outsiders

Based on the famous 1967 novel by S.E. Hinton, The Outsiders brings theatergoers into the hardscrabble world of 14-year-old dreamer Ponyboy Curtis as he finds his way in a world of violence, classism and gang warfare between the down-on-their-luck Greasers and the wealthy Socs. Now playing at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre. The Outsiders took home four awards (including Best Musical) at the 2024 Tony Awards.

In an exclusive interview with Ticketmaster, Jonathan Clay of Jamestown Revival opened up about writing the music and lyrics for The Outsiders after reading the original novel in his eighth grade English class. “My English teacher was a huge fan of it and she got us all reading it as students,” he said. “What an honor to be able to take something like that, such a revered and influential piece of work, and put music to it.”

Just In Time also stars Gracie Lawrence in her Tony-nominated Broadway debut as Connie Francis, Erika Henningsen as Sandra Dee, Lance Roberts as famous New York disc jockey Murray the K and more.

BOOP! The Musical

That’s a wrap on BOOP! The Musical. Betty Boop, Grampy, Pudgy and the rest of the gang will take their final bow on Broadway July 13 at the Broadhurst Theatre. The technicolor spectacle features newcomer (and Tony nominee) Jasmine Amy Rogers in a star-making turn as the iconic Queen of Cartoons, who discovers all the colors of love when she makes a trip from Toon Town to real-world New York City.

The crowd-pleasing musical also marks legendary composer David Foster’s very first foray into Broadway after decades of writing pop hits for Whitney Houston, Céline Dion and Natalie Cole. In an exclusive interview with Ticketmaster, the 16-time Grammy winner shared how setting his sights on the stage stretched his well-honed songcraft in new and unexpected ways. “I used to take my writing for granted,” he said. “Like, ‘Oh yeah, I’m a writer and so I’ll just bang this out, I’ll bang that out.’ Not so on Broadway…‘Cause there’s no rules like with [pop music]—there’s no radio rules at all. You can do anything you want. Which expands the horizon, but it also makes you have to think more and work more.”

SUNSET BLVD.

Experience SUNSET BLVD. like never before, as Nicole Scherzinger electrifies as Hollywood starlet Norma Desmond one last time. The groundbreaking, Hollywood-set production which earned seven Tony nominations including Best Revival of a Musical and acting nominations for the Pussycat Dolls alum and co-star Tom Francis, will close July 20 at the St. James Theatre.

Ahead of the 2025 Tonys, Francis (who departs the show on July 6) gave Ticketmaster his perspective on the revival’s special magic in an exclusive interview, saying, “This piece really is like no other Sunset Boulevard. [It’s] a very, very different version… I use the analogy that it’s kind of like jazz. It takes the rules of theater and breaks them like jazz takes the rules of music and breaks it.”

Pirates! The Penzance Musical

The Pirate King and his fearsome crew are sailing off into the sunset! Pirates! The Penzance Musical will wrap up its limited run at the Todd Haimes Theatre on July 27. Starring David Hyde Pierce, Jinkx Monsoon and Ramin Karimloo, the joyous revival of Gilbert and Sullivan’s beloved 19th century opera relocates all the action between the pirates, the Modern Major-General and his brood of beautiful daughters to Jazz Age New Orleans, and earned a nomination for Best Revival of a Musical at the 2025 Tony Awards.

In an exclusive sit-down with Ticketmaster ahead of the awards show, Monsoon opened up about playing Ruth the Pirate Queen and how special the recognition was for the entire Pirates! crew, saying, “I love the nomination because it’s for the whole company. This show, you know, there’s headliners in it, there’s principal characters, but this is an ensemble show. There’s no weak link in this cast and crew. We’re all really good at what we do!” (And good news for fans of the drag legend: she’ll be taking over the delightfully deranged role of Mary Todd Lincoln in Cole Escola’s Tony-winning romp Oh, Mary! for just eight weeks starting August 4.)
