Step Inside: Globe Life Field – Home of the Texas Rangers

Home of the Texas Rangers

Globe Life Field is the home of the 2023 World Series Champions Texas Rangers. It opened during the 2020 Major League Baseball season. It replaced the previous Globe Life Park, the Rangers’ home from 1994 to 2019. Globe Life Field sits just south of that stadium and is located in Arlington, Texas, just east of AT&T Stadium, home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys.

Globe Life Field History

Globe Life Field was approved in 2016 with one of the main selling points being the 5.5-acre retractable roof to help keep fans and players cooler in the hot Texas summers. The stadium was set to open in March of 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic pushed that date back. The first event at the stadium was a high school graduation in May of that year. The Rangers played their first home game on the synthetic grass at Globe Life Field on July 24, 2020. Later in the season, MLB decided that the postseason would be played in “bubbles” to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Globe Life Field hosted one of the National League Division Series, the Championship Series, and the World Series. Fans were allowed to attend the NLCS and World Series.

Chris Stapleton was originally scheduled to open the stadium with a concert in March of 2020, but that was postponed until August 2021. Globe Life Field has since hosted concerts for Green Day, Metallica, Lady Gaga, Elton John, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Morgan Wallen, the Jonas Brothers, Brad Paisley and more.

In 2020, Globe Life Field hosted the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association National Finals Rodeo due to the pandemic. The stadium also hosted a 2021 Lockheed Martin Commanders’ Classic college football game between Army and Air Force.

In 2023, Globe Life Field was the site of dramatic wins en route to the Rangers’ World Series victory. The Game 1 come-from-behind victory in the World Series led by Corey Seager’s game-tying home run in the ninth inning and Adolis Garcia’s walkoff home run in the 11th inning set the stadium into a frenzy, as did the Game 5 clinching victory to earn the franchise’s World Series title.

Parking and Admission at Globe Life Field

All of the Globe Life Field’s 13 parking lots are cashless. You can choose to use the Arlington-based rideshare service Via, which costs between $3 and $5 but only runs until 9:00 p.m. You can also take the Trinity Railway Express to Centreport Station, which is the closest stop to the stadium.
