Iconic Michigan Venue: Saint Andrews Hall – Detroit, MI

Saint Andrews Hall History

In 1907, Saint Andrews Hall opened as the home of the Saint Andrew’s Scottish Society of Detroit. Built in Bricktown, the 1,000-capacity, brownstone-style venue was used for the organization’s benevolent efforts, and played host to thousands of concerts, plays and other meet-ups until the ‘80s. By then, music industry legend Vince Bannon was quickly transforming Saint Andrews into go-to local digs, featuring the 400-capacity underground (The Shelter) and top-level lounge (The Society Room, formerly known as the Burns Room) for various entertainment. In 1994, the storied hall was sold to one of its tenants, a music promoter, and by the 2010s, the building saw a series of renovations. Still, the cultural and architectural Detroit mainstay echoes nostalgia.

The venue famously launched Eminem’s career and boasts no shortage of other legendary acts who graced its hall, including Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Nirvana, R.E.M., Adele, No Doubt and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
