Ticketmaster Makes it Easy to Give this Holiday Season

Ticketmaster will donate an additional $1 for every “like” to Ticketmaster’s Facebook page now through 12/31.

At Ticketmaster, we value service to strengthen our ties with charitable partners and build community. Ticketmaster is proud to announce another year with the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® in support of their ninth annual Thanks and Giving® campaign.  Over the last four years, with your support, we have raised almost a million dollars to help save lives. One hundred percent (100%) of the donations benefit St. Jude, the nation’s leading pediatric research and treatment center devoted solely to children with cancer and other deadly diseases. St. Jude has developed protocols that help push overall survival rates for childhood cancers from less than 20 percent when the hospital opened in 1962, to 80 percent today. And no family ever pays St. Jude for anything.

This year, we’re pleased to announce three new ways for you to Give. To Help Them Live.

Option 1:  Donate During Checkout

Through January 6, 2013, fans will be able to make donations for the ninth annual St. Jude Thanks and Giving campaign directly at the end of their ticket buying transaction via a click on a donation box.  This simple click can help save the lives of children in communities everywhere.

Option 2:  Donate Now

For the first time, we now have an easy way for you to give directly, even if you are not buying tickets.  Simply visit our donation event and make a $5 or more donation.

Option 3: Like to Donate

Ticketmaster is donating an additional $1 for each new like to Ticketmaster’s Facebook page through 12/31 – over $7,500 raised so far! You can help us spread the word by “liking” the page and by sharing a message from Ticketmaster’s Facebook page and/or retweeting one of the St. Jude messages from @Ticketmaster.

Even the smallest gifts make a big impact!  Here’s how your gifts of hope make a difference:

$3 = one box of pediatric isolation masks to help protect patients with compromised immune systems
$4 = one snack bag for patients and siblings
$8 = one blank medical teaching doll to help patients understand medical treatment and procedures
$10 = one rehabilitation weight used to help improve patients’ quality of life
$15 = four boxes of pediatric bandages
$20 = one new toy for hospital play areas or recreational areas at St. Jude housing facilities
$25 = one one box of toddler footies
$30 = one day’s worth of meals for a St. Jude family in the Kay Kafe, the St. Jude cafeteria
$35 = one #heystjude T-shirt seen in the video
$40 = one rehabilitation ball used in physical therapy
$50 = necessities for parents who may have hurriedly left home after their child’s diagnosis

Make saving children’s lives part of your holiday tradition and “give thanks for the healthy kids in your life, and give to those who are not.”

Thanks Senator Schumer *blush*

If you live in New York you probably have heard about the unbelievable benefit concert next week, the 121212 event to benefit Hurricane Sandy Victims. With an epic line up of artists these are the hottest tickets in town. Many more fans want to go to this concert than there are tickets and this also means that nefarious brokers are interested in purchasing tickets as well. As with any onsale, we blocked thousands of their BOT requests (here is more on our fight against BOTS). We are also continuing the work of carefully reviewing the orders and cancelling tickets if we find they were purchased by a nefarious broker that violated our terms of service. To date we have cancelled hundreds of tickets.

Today, Senator Schumer (D-NY) called for resale marketplaces to take down the posts for tickets and the Senator Tweeted:  Online ticket brokers should follow TicketsNow and TicketExchange and not allow scalpers to sell tickets for the Sandy relief concert.

We whole-heartedly applaud Senator Schumer (and we also want to thank him for the shout out!) for drawing attention to the disappointing activity on the secondary market for this charitable event.  At Ticketmaster, we proactively blocked all postings for this event on our resale marketplaces (TicketsNow and Ticket Exchange) in advance because we believe that no one but the Robin Hood Foundation should profit from this event.  This is our standard policy for all charitable events.

This could have been avoided if New York allowed paperless tickets. New York is the only state that bans this ticket type, which reduces scalping by 75%.

Ticketmaster Makes a Donation for Every Ticket Sold on World AIDS Day

Tomorrow on Worlds AIDS Day, Ticketmaster will make a donation for every ticket sold throughout the day to Lifebeat: Music Fights HIV/AIDS thus encouraging music and live entertainment fans to help fight HIV/AIDS.

Lifebeat is a national nonprofit that uses the power of music and the music industry to help educate young people about HIV/AIDS prevention. Every year, Lifebeat reaches thousands of concert-goers across the country with safer sex education, free condoms, HIV/AIDS prevention information, counseling, and testing. In 2012, Lifebeat conducted HIV/AIDS outreach at concerts and festivals headlined by Madonna, Coldplay, Juanes, Wiz Khalifa & Mac Miller, and Rita Ora.

Held on December 1st every year, World AIDS Day provides an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV. Nearly 34 million people are currently living with HIV and AIDS worldwide, with young people between the ages of 13 and 24 accounting for 1 in 3 newly infected HIV cases in the US. Over 2,600 people aged 16 to 24 are newly infected daily.

We are happy to provide a channel for fans to support to Lifebeat’s cause and help fight against HIV/AIDS.

Provide Relief from Sandy with Your Ticket Purchase

In the tragic wake of Superstorm Sandy, are you wishing you could do more to help those affected by natural disasters? Ticketmaster and the American Red Cross have partnered to make it easy for you to contribute.

Last week we started accepting donations on behalf of the Red Cross here at Ticketmaster.com. When you buy your tickets, you have the option to donate increments of $5 to relief efforts, 100 percent of which go directly to the Red Cross. Generous fans from all over the country are already making contributions but as you can see from the news, many people are still in dire straits and need our help.

The campaign ends Monday, November 19. If you miss our deadline, remember the Red Cross will continue accepting donations for Superstorm Sandy relief efforts–as well as in support of people affected by other unfortunate disasters. Please make a donation today with your ticket purchase or go directly to the Red Cross Disaster Relief donation page.

Ticketmaster Goes Pink for October’s National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

At Ticketmaster, we use food, fun and service to strengthen the ties between us.  We do regular team service work in our local communities, we financially support a host of wonderful organizations around the globe that help others, and we use our connections with fans to raise awareness for causes we believe in.  But we’ve never done this: for the first time in more than 35 years, we are changing the color of our tickets!  We are making all Ticketmaster tickets pink to raise awareness for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  In addition to raising awareness with millions of pink tickets, we’ll also be supporting the American Cancer Society by donating a portion of the proceeds from all NFL tickets sold on Ticketmaster.com and the NFL Ticket Exchange during the month of October.  The proceeds will help fund cancer research and treatment programs across the country by the American Cancer Society. Breast cancer affects so many families and we are proud to be a part of this important initiative and look forward to getting fans of live entertainment involved in our efforts.

We will also be raising funds through an auction of official pink NFL merchandise signed by Hall of Fame Quarterback Troy Aikman, who is the spokesperson for the NFL Ticket Exchange powered by Ticketmaster.  Additional autographed and commemorative NFL merchandise will be auctioned on the NFL’s Auction Network site, benefiting the NFL’s “A Crucial Catch” program which focuses on early cancer screening and detection.

Flexible Mobile Search with Center Point Search

Event search is the most used feature on Ticketmaster. The Ticketmaster team has delivered some great search enhancements for Ticketmaster.com, like predictive search and supporting act display. Our mobile team has also worked to improve the search experience in the Ticketmaster app for the iPhone®. Our team set out to leverage all the powerful capabilities of mobile devices.

For one of our first mobile search enhancements, we wanted to give you the ability to see events around you based on your actual location.

Point radius search gives you the ability to select how far you’re willing to travel and it presents the live event options within that distance. When searching for an event, you will be able to determine how far you want to travel by using the radius slider. Maybe you are looking for an event that will fit into a weekend road trip or maybe you are looking for something a little closer to home, the radius slider will allow you to completely customize the search results based on distance. We took this concept further by displaying events outside of the radius, giving you two buckets of results: one of events within your desired radius and another of events outside. You can quickly reset the center point of your search by entering a city or a zip code. We’d love to hear what you think, email us at fanvoices@ticketmaster.com or hit the email button below.

We are working hard on other great features for the Ticketmaster apps. Thank you for being a fan!

Back to Football!

We are huge sports fans at Ticketmaster and we know you are just as excited as we are that football season is finally here.

We’ve worked with the NFL over the last several seasons on the NFL Ticket Exchange. It is the only official ticket exchange of the NFL where fans can buy and sell tickets with confidence that every ticket purchased is authentic so you are guaranteed a real ticket, every time.

If you are looking to catch your favorite team in action, there are some tickets still available through Ticketmaster.com and there are tens of thousands of tickets posted on the NFL Ticket Exchange. You can check out each week’s top NFL matchups on the NFL Ticket Exchange’s Buzz Index.

Let us know what you think and thank you for being a fan!

Android users rejoice: Ticketmaster launches Android App

Ticketmaster's Android app
We constantly think about ways to help you find live events that you will love. We now have a free app for Android users to discover new events and purchase tickets, from wherever you are. You can download the mobile app from Google Play. With location services enabled, your phone will find events nearby and there are plenty of adjustable filters that will help make these suggestions customized for you.

We are fanatical about providing the best mobile ticketing solutions on the planet and with the addition of this Android app, we now have mobile solutions across major mobile platforms. We announced the Ticketmaster app for iPhone® earlier this year and we have a mobile optimized site. If you have an iPhone, you can join the nearly 1 million current users by downloading the free app from the App Store and if you have a non-Android and non-iPhone, you can find our mobile optimized site by visiting Ticketmaster.com from your device.

We’ll continue to make enhancements to our mobile apps to make finding live events, purchasing tickets and staying connected with other fans easy and fun. We hope these apps make your summer concert season even better, let us know what you think!

Paperless Ticketing Insights from Fans

Ticketmaster is committed to making sure fans have the best event experience possible, and one of the ways we facilitate this is with paperless tickets. In addition to being eco-friendly and convenient, paperless tickets ensure that nefarious brokers can’t game the system by snatching up tickets with automated software (bots) and reselling them to fans at astronomical prices.

We’ve long held that paperless tickets deter underhanded nefarious brokers and help keep prices accessible to fans, and now we’ve got a real-world scenario to prove it.

Bruce Springsteen used paperless tickets for 20% of each venue’s seats during his 2012 Wrecking Ball Tour, and his fans couldn’t have been happier. In addition to reducing nefarious broker activity, paperless tickets were reported by fans to be both convenient and easy to use. We surveyed concertgoers about their paperless ticket experience and put together this snazzy infographic to outline the findings.

Some highlights:

  • 98% of fans report being displeased by bots cutting the line to buy tickets
  • 91% of fans found the entrance process to be easy and convenient
  • Paperless ticket holders were nearly twice as likely as paper ticket holders to be happy with the quality of their seats
  • 68% of fans think even more highly of the beloved Boss for using paperless tickets

Thanks, Bruce, for hooking up your fans and going paperless — they enjoyed the experience so much that 96% of them think you should use paperless ticketing again in the future.

Looking to go paperless? Get started by downloading the Ticketmaster mobile app.
